On this day, nearly 2 years after buying the house, we have finally started to lay a floor that we are actually keeping. Alok has been busy tiling away, with the help of his lovely assistant, my mom. Here is the progress:
Looking good.
In other exciting news, we had our 2nd HVAC system installed (for the 2nd/3rd floors). Although, I was so distracted by everything else that I didn't take a picture or even look at it.
Our 2 missing windows are also in the process of being installed. Here is the first replacement window in our yellow bedroom:
The attic has also been painted, as seen here.... although I don't think it looks painted. Hmmm....
Alok was also very upset today when he came to the house. He said that he had "really screwed up" and brought me into the apartment area. I expected to see paint dripping through the ceiling, instead, here is what I saw:
What do you see? Nothing? That's what I thought. Apparently, the speakers in the ceiling are slightly off center and Alok has been ruminating about this all day. Oh to be a perfectionist ;-)

We have color..... inside!
January 26, 2012
First, I have no idea why this blog is underlined, but oh well.
In house news, we have color! We have painted the laundry room. Tile will be coming soon. Here it is (it looks darker because I have a bad flash that this room currently has low lighting):
The attic is also primed and ready for paint:
Alok wanted to make sure that I got a picture of the tile saw that he carried upstairs by himself:
We are also about to get 2 new windows installed in our yellow and master bedroom.
I promise, the inside of the house is much more exciting than this blog. More to come ;-)

@#$@#!@
January 15, 2012 (just a few days delayed)
I went to the house last weekend to check on my wonderful husband and was greeted by a not so happy camper. If you've seen the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, you know what t-shirt he should have been wearing.
Alok had screwed down the floor in the wrong place and with mortar drying, he was none too happy
frantically trying to get up the flooring prior to the mortar drying
Fortunately, it came up and all was good in the world.
Preparing the new area
Screwing in the rest
The laundry room is now ready for tile!

Color splash
January 14, 2012
After our the color-vension yesterday, we went and got some of the color samples so that we could start to make a decision... We didn't get all of the color samples because Sherwin Williams ran out! (seriously!)
Although you can't really tell, here are the color samples:
Very light gray-ish near the attic (it would be for the attic, but we can't paint that until the drywallers are finished)
Dining room choices.
Laundry room choices
Potential for all the hallways/apartment area and front area
By the stained glass area
One more view of the same color
My mom holding up our laundry room tile to the potential wall color choices
Close up
Stained glass reminder
Master bedroom
Once the other samples get in stock, hopefully we'll have another consult from our colorful helpers.
Alok and my mom then spent the day working on the house, including continuing to strip the paint and getting the laundry room floor ready for tile:
Alok giving me a look that should be a smile under his stripped wood work
See these 3 dots on the bottom....they were likely decorative spindles that someone cut off. There are 3 between all of the posts.
Our drywaller continued to work and here are the latest attic pictures:
We also bought the tile for the attic bathroom. Here it is:
We will also have to do a bit of work around the flooring. Molding will be re-hung eventually, but due to the plaster vs. drywall size difference, there is a bit of a gap.
That's all for now!

Drifting in
January 13, 2012
There has been a lot going on in the house! Unfortunately, part of what is going on in the house is snow:
Hmmmm...... That doesn't seem good!
Here the update on the outside of the house:
Yes, it's still blue.... no worries, we will revisit all of the outside issues more towards the spring ;-)
Alok has still been stripping away (paint that is. No, he hasn't had to take on that second job yet):
The drywallers have been hard at work in the attic. There is one more coat and then we are good to go for the walls:
The 2nd floor is currently being painted:
We have also made some big/important purchases:
1) a heating/air system for the 2nd/3rd floor
2) Tile for the laundry room (we're also finishing this, or at least getting it usable, prior to move in):
3) Some lovely pre-finished, solid walnut floors for the attic
This has all been ordered!
In other news, we had some color consultation tonight that would allow us to avoid a repeat of the outside of the house and to avoid tile/color choices like this one:
Sorry, Alok, I just don't think that the green onyx quite fits! And yes, that was a real choice of his.....
We also had to keep this lovely stained glass window in mind:
Here are some of the colors that we are getting samples of:
That's all for now :-)
