What's missing?

October 10, 2010

Besides regular blog posts?

Let's see how observant you regular blog readers are. What's missing from these pictures (hint: There are two things missing)

Did you guess?

This is your last chance! Come on, no cheating.... (I even gave you different views)

The two massive trees that were pressed up against the house. The holly in the front and the ewe on the side. It really opened things up. Here are old pictures of the trees before, if that helps you with your visual:

See that tree up against the window (pictured in Sept)? It's gone.

See that massive bush on the left side of the pic? It's also gone.

Here's the update on the front of the house. As you can see below, the dirt has all arrived (42 tons!) and the area under the front porch is now level. You can also see that we have built a new post to support the apartment closet that wasn't supported at all. BTW, it is now thought that this little area was a hooked on outhouse. Apparently if you crawl underneath it, there is a hole that would support that theory. Interesting.

Here is the current view of the front:

It will be nice when we are able to get this all sealed up.

Notice anything growing in the back of our house?

One single rose in the middle of the flagstone garden area that was uncovered.

As for other updates, we now have quite the tree/brush pile on our front curb... again. I'm sure everyone loves that:

This is much bigger than it appears.

Here you can begin to see front yard improvement (i.e., even less ivy and more leveled):

Not too much has been happening inside. I've had some allergy issues (you should have seen the horror on my allergists face in Chicago when I told her about the house) and we currently have a visitor in town. Remember, we'll keep posting as we keep working. If we aren't posting, that means we're busy/lazy/procrastinating :-)

Here are the updates inside. First, we're still making progress on scraping the apartment walls, as seen here:

I'm also thinking that we may want to remove those to light fixtures seen on the wall straight ahead and put them upstairs in the master bedroom. Again, this area will be a family room (although it will likely start as our bedroom). Those fixtures are original and have gas lines behind them.

Secondly, I finally figured out what this hole was for in the uncovered chimney in the master bedroom:

We think that hole was cut there so that there could be a stove hooked to the chimney to heat the room. I'd like to leave this brick exposed if we can.

That's about all for now!

Jessica
