The clampetts

May 16, 2012 (backdated to the date of pics)

People often say, "I bet your neighbors are thrilled that the house is being restored."  Apparently, these people haven't been to the house.  Here it is right now:

These are mutant weeds.  This is seriously as tall as me

When we arrived at the house, I found this:
Hint, anyone?

In good news for us (but irrelevant to the neighbors), our kitchen is slowly undergoing transformation. Here it is:

We also had just enough left over wood floor from the attic to have it put down in the yellow bedroom (or the room formerly known as the yellow bedroom).  Looking good!

We are very slowing getting there!!

New addition

May 10, 2012

Alok has still been frantically working on the house due to a new addition.  Not a new addition to the house.....

Yes, you read that right.  Right now, it looks like that addition is scheduled to arrive the day after Thanksgiving: November 23, 2012.

The sign above was created to tell my parents the news.  Here is how it looked when I hung it up:

Not surprisingly, Alok didn't like the tape and immediately fixed it:

He definitely has the detail-orientedness that is needed for house construction.

Here is us telling my mom.  She thought that she was coming over to give us her opinion on the house.  She was not suspicious at all, although she did mention that we had never asked her opinion before.

Needless to say, she was pretty excited.  Although, I think she may be equally excited that we should be moving out of her house by November 23, 2012.

Since taking above pictures, the nursery has been painted, as seen below.  Pretty gender-neutral, although we do planning on finding out the sex in July.

In baby, but not house, related news, the Dark River Derby Coalition has its 2nd season opener on Saturday, May 12th, 2012. 7pm at Scotties Fun Spot.  You won't get to see Patella Crusher on the track, but you'll see her on the sidelines as a bench coach.    That being said, it will be a great time, so I hope to see some of you there!!  Plus, we're raising money to support Sk8 the State for MS, which raises money to fight MS.

 That's all for now.

Behind Closed Doors....

May 4, 2012

The Behind Closed Doors Historic Home Tour is set for tomorrow. Do you think we're ready?  (Maybe 2022).

Alok is still working on his "house baby" aka the kitchen tile.  Yesterday, it was grouted and I believe that in 3 days it can be sealed.  Then, we can get this part of the kitchen painted, including the cabinets.

Here is a better view of the rest of the kitchen.  Looking pretty good.

Well, besides the hunter green countertops.  Sigh.

More paint has been going up around the house. Here it is:

That's all for now!

The attic is done.... well almost!

 April 29, 2012

Nothing in this house is probably going to be totally finished (ever), but the attic is ALMOST there!!  Here it is:

Check out that floor. Woo hoo!!!  It is completely finished!

Here is what's left in the attic:

Need to finish the beams.  That can wait, although the wood they are storing probably needs to be moved.

Although you can't really tell, the windows are a mess. Fortunately, we really don't need them to open and they aren't painted. They just have large spaces for water/bugs to get in and air to get out.  This will be fixed sooner rather than later.

Ditto on this window. There's about an inch gap around the bottom.

The attic bathroom is almost there!  The tile needs grouted and the clawfoot tub needs re-painted on the outside.  Eventually, there will be molding, etc but we aren't that fancy right now ;-)

Alok, with the help of his diligent helper Charla, has been working on what I'd like to call his "house baby" aka the black and white tile in the kitchen.  Lookin' good!

In other news that is less exciting to you all, the radiators that were left in the bookshelves were removed!  Woo hoo! More storage and less old nasty-ness here we come:

Kitchen tile

April 21, 2012

So, I have recently been the master of taking pictures and not uploading them to the blog. So I'm running about a week behind.  Also, the blog has a crazy new format, so hopefully all looks well.

Alok has been busy laying the black and white marble tile in the kitchen.  This is the tile that he picked out because he would "regret it forever" if we didn't buy it ;-)  Here it is:

I also attempted to take additional pictures of some of the painting, but it isn't showing as well (of course).  If you look straight ahead, you'll see a radiator in the bookcase.  We are getting those removed.
 Front parlor

 Master bath

Part of the kitchen with newly painted trim.  Looking sooo much better!

In fun news, look at the space between the original floors and drywall.  Hmmm...... plaster is much thicker:

The attic floor is coming along quickly:

Attic bathroom- Has been tiled (needs a bit of work) and then the bathtub needs to be painted.

So, the question still remains, when are we moving in? Answer: Who knows!

What is still on our to-do list:

1) Finish the laid tile (e.g., grout, seal, etc): attic bathroom, apartment bathroom, bathroom under the stairs, and kitchen tile

2) Paint the rest of the kitchen, kitchen cabinets, butler pantry cabinet, apartment bathroom, hallway bathroom, yellow bedroom

3) Put in the stained glass window

4) Fix the stairs

5) Re-paint all window frames/seal them... only 61 to go!

6) Clean up all the crazy stuff that's laying around

7) Kitchen appliances installed/ all bathroom fixtures in the ones we're doing

8) Get the laundry room ready

Big things that will continue/wait:

1) Siding/outdoor painting (we just spent 1 gazillion $$ at Sherwin Williams, so this will somewhat happen this summer)

2) Kitchen countertops (we may do cheap ones now)

3) Apartment floor (lay new wood)

4) All trim, etc to close up the 2 inch gaps in our floors

5)  master bath

6)  hallway bath

7)  Alok's office/bath

8) Yellow bedroom floor

Not to bad, right ;-)

Oops!

A few days ago, my aunt said I hadn't posted in weeks. I assured her that I had. Apparently, this was saved and not posted. Here are pics from early April (really quick)

First, we have rooms that are painted (but too dark of pics)

Our attic bathroom was tiled!

Not to thrilling (sorry, running off to lunch). Will post more later!
