Fire hazard

December 19, 2010

I walked in the house today and couldn't figure out what looked so different. Apparently, Alok has been taking off the cheap replacement molding that was the in foyer/dining room. Here it is (or here it was):

I love places like this, where the molding went over the window trim:

You can also see where they put the new ceiling after they put in the molding:

So, that will be an interesting fix.

Alok also apparently tore down the rest of the apartment ceiling:

If you look closely, you can see the old gas line here that was for the previous ceiling light

Here you can see a mis-mosh of crazy wires that were hidden in the ceiling (although you see a light here, there was nothing visible here in the room:

I'm assuming that these wires weren't connected, but I guess you shouldn't assume anything in this house.

Here is another random pipe and some funky looking wood:

Right now we are working on getting the apartment fixed up, getting the rest of the siding on the back of the house, and starting to rip down any other walls that are coming down. Even if we aren't fixing them now, at least we can get some of the plaster dust out of the way. The debate now is what to tear down. Do we tear down the walls that we've already stripped so that it's easier to insulate, fix stuff, etc? Do we leave them and tear down new walls that we encounter? Do we leave everything? Drywalling is easier, but Alok thinks plaster looks nicer. Ah, who knows what we'll do.

  1. I meant to comment when this post was still new, but forgot till now. I noticed at the old house as we were painting it that the plaster looked nicer, but after it all dried, I don't think you can tell the difference. We have both plaster and drywall in the new house, in some places on the same stretch of wall/ceiling. So next time you guys are over, we'll have Alok do the Pepsi challenge to see if he can tell which is which.
