Need recommendations

May 30, 2011

Since we aren't zillionares, we can't do everything now, but we are looking for recommendations for the following people. We are also looking to keep things cheap!

Here is what we are we may be looking for people to do:

1- Insulation
2- Cutting down some trees/bushes
3- Drywall (we'll likely do this ourselves, but still want a quote)
4- Some outdoor painting
5- Tuck pointing the basement/around the outside of the house
6- Fixing our flagstone patio
7- Taking out 2 load bearing walls (this means that you need to have done this before)

Any suggestions?

Jessica

  1. We were really happy with M & M masonry. They did our repairs in the basement and on the outside of our house. Maggie has also used them. I believe that phone # is 217-257-0497

After a lot of research, we went with blown in soy insulation for our attic. We used the same company Maggie did: Prairie State Insulation. http://www.prairiestateinsulation.com/

The upfront cost is a little bit more, but it may make sense if your attic is like ours in terms of small rafter size and lack of soffits. The energy savings does also make sense financially over time.

Both companies do free estimates. Best of luck!

  2. Had John Roberts paint our exterior decks, and trim last year. He did a really good job, and was very reasonable. If you want to see his work, our house is the white house on 16th st across from the hospital, pretty much around the corner from yours. He also has a website, johnrobertspainting.com
