Animal House

October 8, 2011

So a few days ago, I met with a drywaller to get a quote. First, I arrived to see this guy in my backyard (his friend ran away too quickly):

You can't really see, but check in the background on the left side

I saw him again in my neighbor's yard today, here is the close up:

Gotta love rooster neighbors

We then walked around the house so he could measure for the quote. In the attic, I looked down and saw this:

See those little droppings? Guess what animal has been hanging out.

Let's just say that I was standing in a low area and about hit the deck when I looked above me. Yuck. Maybe the drywall will help get rid of our little bat guests.

Maybe we'll need to build a bat house, like this on from this old house:

Anyway, in awesome news, we have our insulators coming out on Monday. They will be doing spray foam on all of the outside walls. Alok's been rushing to get the walls prepped. So, by the end of the week, we'll be fully outside insulated.

In even more awesome news, we have found a drywaller and accepted the quote. We hope that he will be able to help Alok get the inside walls/framing of the attic ready/hanging insulation on ceiling/indoor walls ahead of time and then we'll be getting the drywall started. Time estimate for drywall= 2 months. We are hoping to start in the next few weeks so that we can hit our 12/31/11 move in date. Well, we may not be moved in by then, but we should be able to have an awesome BYOC (bring your own chair) New Years Party :-)

In the meantime, we will be scheduling 2 big workdays where we will try to recruit our lovely friends in Quincy to come and help. Drinks, food, and plenty of accolade will be provided. If you are interested in helping, let me know. The quicker we can get in, the quicker you will be invited to our awesome parties where we will continue to provide drinks, food, and accolade. An invite for a November and a December date will come soon! I'm sure you're super excited to feel pressured into helping!

Here is the current (and ever evolving) move in plan:

1) Get insulation (outside is set!)
2) Get drywall (it's set--> after we finish our wiring for surround sound, internet, cable, framing the 1st/2nd floor where needed, move the stairs to the basement, attic framing, and insulating everywhere)
3) Refinish our current hard wood floors (to keep the dust from flying)
4) Get the other areas of the house ready with the solid floor, even if we don't lay the new floors yet (attic, laundry room, yellow bedroom, my office, apartment/butler's pantry area)
5) Fix up the little bathroom in Alok's office. It's the closest to being ready and only will require about 2 sq ft of tile

It is this bathroom in the back

6) Hopefully get our master bathroom done, which will require some tiling skill.
7) Finish the super small bathroom under the stairs
8) Do some mega cleaning- like by professionals.

We can do it!!!

In the meantime, Alok has been working on cleaning the house. Here it is (the dust was flying!):

And my dad has been trying to rake the billions of leaves out of our yard:

I am preparing for the Night of the Living Derby and procrastinating (shhh, don't tell). Make sure to come out and see us tonight at 8pm at Scottie's Fun Spot. DRDC vs. Twin Cities. We'll be raising money for Madonna House!
