Bathtub Safety (Countdown to Baby. B-81 Days)

September 2, 2012

After a long day, we finally have a few things checked off our baby countdown list. Woo hoo!

Here they are :

5) Finish the backsplash ---> COMPLETE!!

Here it is!  All finished:

35) Hang the trim around the attic windows.--> COMPLETE!!

Full disclosure, I forgot to get pics.  It looks pretty much the same though ;-)

36)  Hang Alok's window in the Attic--> COMPLETE

Here he is working on the attic window, which is now fully installed with trim.  Notice that he is using the bathtub so that that he didn't fall out onto Hampshire from this 3rd store window.

Post install!

While we didn't get anything else totally marked off the list, we made progress.

I painted like a fiend for about 9 hours straight and my dad helped to prime as well.

Here is the lovely work:

 Pieces of trim

Only the pile on the far left needs to be painted.  Yesterday, Alok apparently only thought that I painted 3 boards, not 1/3 as I did.  Needless to say, he faked it well when I asked him if he was impressed by how much I had completed!  3 boards in 7 hours..... hmmmm......

My dad worked on cutting out tin to cover the holes from old outlets/radiators. They just need to be nailed down:

So here is the full update on the Countdown to Baby 2012 list!

After starting with 40 items and then increasing to 41 yesterday, we are now down to.... 38!   WOO HOO!!

So, here is the continuous list that needs to be completed:

1) Get as much done on the outside siding as possible

2)

Hang up the spice rack (it goes in the space in the pic below)

 3)
It goes here

4)
Add this trim.... actually this is for all rooms upstairs and in the apartment area downstairs. We got the delivery from Bayview Building Supply today!

5)
Now, we can always paint/clean this lovely sink later, but right now it's unusable

6)
Hang up the butler's pantry doors after stripping the paint off the hinges

7)
Add some doors on the bathrooms (most of the other rooms won't have doors for a bit)

8)
Clean up and/or tear out this area.... in the apartment

9)
Lay a floor in the apartment area.  There is way too much dust to leave it as a sub-floor for now.  We will just do a pre-finished oak here.

 10)
Get a door for this bathroom

11)
Either fix or at least put up a door so the pets can't escape in this unfinished area under the stairs

12)
Pet proofing... which involves covering all of the open holes, like Alok did here.  He cut tin and put it over the old radiator/electrical holes in the floor

A not covered hole

The lack of pocket doors are a perfect place for dust/pets to hide

Attic stair top needs to be capped so that a pet doesn't get injured jumping on it

13)
Poly all of the exposed brick (this is in 10 places.....side note, look how clean this is! No tools, no paint)

Another one to poly

Another view of the clean space

Same here

14)
Cover up the window wells. They will have the original trim refinished eventually, but for now, there are just exposed dusty weights

 15)
Fix these lovely steps.  Plan= paint them (brown top, white front) and lay a runner.

16)
Hang the stained glass window here. We need to get a piece of glass for it.

17)
Cover this lovely gaping hole in the side of the staircase

18)

We are not finishing the bathroom, but should hang a door in order to keep the dust out/pets out of this area (this is our master bath)

19)
Hang trim in our bedroom.... as well as the other rooms upstairs (at least the bedroom and nursery before we move in)

20)

Repair the hole in the master bedroom chimney

21)
Hang trim in the nursery... otherwise, it's looking good!

22)

Notice how this lovely closet still has plaster? Solution= use the cedar we tore out and line this closet.

23)

We aren't finishing the hallway bath either, but we are hanging a door.

This will stay like this for now... unless he wants to go ahead and lay the hardybacker board since it's pretty dusty

24)
Hang a door on our new furnace room

25)

Make/paint window sills for all windows in order to seal them.

26)

Possibly lay a floor in Alok's office. He thinks we should wait, but again, it's a dust issue.  I think we should just do bamboo.

 27)
Repair the drywall in Alok's office area.  It's too dusty to do it later.

28)
Rip out these old electrical heaters in Alok's office

29)

Nothing much!  Just hanging trim around the laundry room window

30)
Hang closet bars in these two small closets. The rest will have to wait.

31)

Repair the chimney hole in the yellow bedroom

32)

Fix this hole....even with a piece of wood so cats can't escape into the wall

33)

Fix the attic stairs..... we are actually just going to carpet this.

34)
Cut a door for the attic bath

 35)
Hang this lovely, horror-movie mirror

 36)
Fix the plumbing on the sink

47)

Put a piece of hardy backer board here in the master bath to cover the hole/prevent the dust later

38) New basement outside door/windows.
