Weed wacking

Or ivy pulling, and pulling, and pulling.....

Today, my mom and I worked on getting some of the ivy under control in the front yard. We spent hours pulling/cutting/killing, but you really can't tell a difference. Here it is at the start:

It was too dark to get after pictures, but really you can just look at the top picture here and it pretty much looks the same. Ridiculous.

It is so out of control that this big tree here in our front yard actually is growing around the ivy:

The good thing is that our front yard also got mowed. Woo hoo! It looks less vacant now (I have to give a shout out to Mandy to changing our usps status from vacant so we'll get mail). Here is the exciting short grass (upper left hand corner of the picture):

Alok worked on pulling up the front deck. It is completely rotted and we need to access the ground under the deck to fix the slight structural issue (i.e., our house sinking into the ground). Here it was at the start:

The process:

And at the end:

Don't you like the creepy night vision picture that my camera takes (it was too dark for anything else).

When we got to the house, we saw that Craig and Jim had framed out the rotted window for the stained glass. Here it is:

They also ripped up a bit of the carpet in the master bedroom (aka the room previously known as the mold room) and look at what was under it:

More carpet! Lovely peach patterned carpet. Gotta love it.

This lead into some great ideas for the outside of the house since it is in disarray and we may have trouble getting it painted this fall. We figured we could just put new siding over the old siding, take pictures of new siding and staple it to the outside of the house, or (my personal favorite) just paste van duesen blue construction paper over it. I'm sure those are all within the historical guidelines, right?

That's about all for now.
