Bat party

August 11-12, 2012

The work in this post is really from all weekend because I was too tired to post yesterday. Although, I left the house early today to write psych reports and I hear that my mom, Alok, and my aunt are still hard at work.  So, this post doesn't properly encompass the "after" but that's too bad ;-)

Here is the east side of the house (that's our master bedroom window) as it is now.

Notice that the large gap that existed earlier in the week is now gone

Here is the current front of the house:

What is missing in this picture?   Guesses..............................

Don't cheat, take a guess!

I'll give you a clue, here is the view from the attic bathroom (on the 3rd floor in front):

Still not sure? How about a close up?

No, that is not super clean glass.  It is no glass.  Fortunately, the lack of glass is currently purposeful. Our current attic window not only shook if touched, but also opened. Having a window on the ground of the 3rd floor that opens directly into a 3rd store drop off seemed like a great idea, but instead, Alok is building a sturdier and non-functional window (at least that is what he says, so I kinda believe him).

Here is Alok building the window while my mom scrapes/cleans the old glass:

He has the frame built:

Excitedly glazing away (OK, maybe not so excitingly):

Alok finished the glazing and told me to wait until it hardened and then I could paint the frames. The assumption was that this may be 30 minutes or an hour.  Alok then starts laughing as he reads the glazing container- it says that you should wait for 7 to 14 days before painting!  Oops. So much for a weekend project.

Let's hope this garbage bag keeps the bat from inviting all of his friends in to party over the next 7 to 14 days.

Alok also put in the old vanity.   It's amazing how a bit of white paint can transform a nasty yellow vanity into something a bit more functional:

We can't put on the door until we strip the hardware.  See those glass shelves? They were contact papered.  Weird... although definitely not the weirdest encounter in this house.

Alok also re-hung the kitchen cabinet shelves, as seen here:

He is making new cabinet drawers, but being that we have about 8000 things to do, I am repainting the old, crappy doors to use in the meantime. (The shelves on the right were always open shelves, which I hate. He's building doors for that too).

Repairs were also complete on the ceiling of the bulter's pantry so that plaster should no longer fall into the pantry items.

The lovely doors were repainted as seen here:

But again, we need the hardware to hang them (notice Alok's work pants hanging from the coat tree in the background.  This is his closet and the dust is really great for his clothes!)

My mom also worked on fixing these windows (well, cutting off the massive nails that would impale someone and painting them white.... It obviously still needs real trim around it)

This is more for me, unless you are really interested in our master bath.  We have the vanities and many of the faucets/lights, but I need to order the rest (whatever I'm missing from here) before they stop carrying this line or something prior to install:

That's all for now (besides what is still going on as I write this)!
