Work day!!

August 6, 2012

First,  thanks to everyone who came to the work day! We were so thankful for the help and Alok was even more excited to have people actually be at the house.

The night before, he got our surround sound (in ceiling speakers) working.  I could take a picture of that, although I'm pretty sure it's hard to capture sound :-)

A lot of painting was done.  Although it seems like smaller things, they were time consuming and needed to be complete!

The vanity for the apartment bathroom is now white instead of dirty off yellow:

Wonderful white shelves for the kitchen cabinet:

Newly painted butlers pantry:

Now if you look closely at the picture above, you'll see what appears to be ceiling falling..... which actually is ceiling falling:

Close up on the ceiling in the butler's pantry. That would be plaster. Luckily, Alok has a quick fix for it.... to be seen later!

In addition to painting, we had the fun of moving our worldly possessions from the garage into the house, so that more things can be moved from the house into the garage.   Now, you may not be able to tell here, but everything was covered with about 4 inches of dust.  You know what else it was covered with?  Mouse poop.  YUCK!!! I have to say that the measure of good friends are the ones that are willing to unpack boxes full of mouse poop and either re-pack them after cleaning the items or throwing things away.  Fortunately, our actual furniture was untouched.  It was the boxes that were a bit in trouble.

Here is the lovely inside of some of the rooms now:

On a cooler note, our friends also worked on hanging items in the bathroom, including a towel bar, toilet paper holder, and hand towel holder. Sounds easier than it actually is.

The hanging of this measure was actually fairly amusing, as our friend was actually taller than the ceiling of the bathroom.  Can you say claustraphobia?

This window was having some work done on it, but I'm not really sure what.....

In other news, we have more siding up on the outside. Woo hoo!

In more "holy shit" news rather than "woo hoo" news, look to the right of this window.... Can you see it?

How about now?.... Notice that you could basically put your hand into the inside of the house.  Gotta love rotted wood.  (We are still apparently somewhat operating under the false assumption that some part of this house isn't rotted)

View from the inside. Alok was very thrilled to see this today :-)

That's all for now.
