Day 11 and first set of recs

August 3, 2010

Well, today wasn't the most exciting day picture-wise. We are still washing the walls (and probably will continue to be for some time). My question is, why do I need to wash them if someone will just re-plaster over them? Maybe I should take some advice from Tom Sawyer...... Washing walls is fun! Anyone want to join in? It's so rewarding that you guys should pay me for a chance to wash the walls. Anyone? Didn't think so ;-)

We did have one guest today though, Avni, Alok's younger sister. She even bought a train ticket to come down and wash walls. Wait.... maybe it is working!!

See, doesn't Avni look like she's having the time of her life?!

Since there isn't too much visibly going on right now (although, if you rub our walls, they are a lot smoother), I figured this would be a good time to start our shout outs. Through this process, we'll be using a lot of different professionals. When we find a good one, we'll let you guys know so that you can keep them in mind if you need them.

The first shout out goes to our Realtor Sandy Frillman. She did a great job in helping us find this place (don't let the condition deter you, that was our choice), as well as negotiating the ins and outs throughout the process. http://sandyfrillman.com/

The second goes out to Dean Steinkamp clean up jobs (217) 224-3390. He had the not so fun job of getting the box springs out of our attic and hauling them away. He quickly followed up with the phone calls and also quickly followed up when the box springs started to be more of a pain than expected (they wouldn't fit down the stairs, he had to come back with a metal cutter which actually broke, and he came back again).

The third goes to Midwest Antique Company where we found our stained glass window (http://midwestantiquecompany.com/).

Lastly, but of course not least, Is El Nopal Mexican Restaurant in Palymra, which has nothing to do with home restoration, but has good food and is next to the antique place. http://www.elnopalmex.com/

Fingers crossed that we'll be able to recommend our roofer when the project is completed. So far so good....

  1. Alok and Jesse,
Congratulations on the amazing house! I guess this makes me officially a follower of your blog... I love it! Also, Avni is a natural at wall-washing. Maybe this can somehow fit into our culinary school/party planning/word domination plan.
Hope to see you guys again soon!
